Little did Robert Pierse think, back in 1962, when operating from his Mother’s converted Hen House, that the practice he was setting up would emerge to be the firm of Pierse Fitzgibbon Solicitors, one of the main employers and economic contributors to the North Kerry town of Listowel.
After over 10 years operating on his own, Robert joined forces with Paddy Fitzgibbon and in 1975 the firm Pierse Fitzgibbon Solicitors was established to represent the people of Listowel and it’s hinterland. However, the firm always had aspirations to represent clients throughout the entire country and location was never going to be a barrier to trade. Geography was for History books!
Back then, the legal profession and legal practices had the image of being conservative, risk adverse and reluctant to move with the times or embrace the untried and unproven field of new technologies. However, Pierse Fitzgibbon did not sign up to this particular view. It had a vision and understood at a very early stage that technology was a powerful vehicle in opening up new frontiers for the business to offer its services to a much larger client base outside the town of Listowel. The firm took a very radical approach in the use of this new technology and made history in being the first firm in the locality to use a Dictaphone, photocopier and computer system.
That progressive attitude still exists today and the firm prides itself on its innovative use of IT Systems to manage and control its business including digital dictation and on-line access by clients to view progress to their cases. It was the first Irish Law Firm in the country to secure the Irish ‘Q Mark’ now known as the EIQA Quality Certification and is also a recipient of the ISO 9001 Quality Assurance Certification.
