Our Community

We’re better together!
Listowel RFC, founded in 1899, has developed into a flourishing sports club which offers opportunities to play competitive and non-competitive rugby for both male and female participants from the age of 6 years up.

The club has match pitches and training areas next to the Kerry Group and in the Town Park, adjacent to all the facilities provided by the Community Centre sports complex. The club has developed plans to purchase its own site in the near future.

Throughout the year, as well as rugby, a number of social, community and fundraising events are organised which will appeal to all players, adult and young.

SENIORS

The senior team competes in the South Munster Junior Two League, the Moss Keane Cup and the Galway/Foley Cup. Numbers are growing and expectations for the future are high. The team is trained by Level 1 MRFU Coach, Tom Bradley.

The senior team is always looking for new players, experienced or not – if you would like to play or learn more please contact Ger O’Sullivan on 087-799 7795.

YOUTH

Youth rugby at Listowel RFC is in very rude health – with increasing success at all age levels, great panel numbers and huge enjoyment to be had and friendships to be made by everyone!

Listowel RFC field U14’s, U16’s and U18’s teams in the West Munster League and Cup. The U18’s have reached the Pan Munster section of the league regularly in past seasons and plan to go one step further and reach the knockout stages soon.

Players also get the opportunity to take part  in challenge matches against clubs in Limerick, Cork and everywhere in between. And, increasingly, overnight tours lasting 2 or 3 days are arranged.

Training takes place one weekday evening per week and Saturday mornings. Matches, by and large, occur at the weekends.

Players who show potential and commitment may get the chance to train and play with the West Munster Cadets and Regional Development Squads, part of Munster RFU’s youth development project.

For those interested in Coaching there is the opportunity to attend Munster RFU coaching courses at all different levels.

MINIS

In the season 2012/13 Listowel RFC had in excess of 50 registered Mini players and it looks likely that figure is set to increase in the years ahead.

The Minis offers rugby to boys and girls aged between 6 to 12 years old and fields teams at U8, U10 and U12 age levels. Players compete against other clubs in the West Munster Festival Series and the Pan-Munster Festival Series of ‘Blitzes’ – days packed with great sport, sportsmanship and huge amounts of fun!

Listowel usually hosts two such festivals per year and parents are asked to get involved with the catering for those days.

Training for the Minis happens on Saturday mornings in the Town Park. Currently there are 10 IRFU qualified Mini coaches, generally parents who have stepped forward to assist with coaching, and all Garda Vetted. There is also a qualified First Aider.

Minis players can also look forward to off-field activities – be it big screen coverage of international matches or a club outing to Thomond Park to see Munster in action.
