Take a spin to Listowel

Are you ready to explore the Kingdom of Kerry Greenways? This 16-kilometre off-road trail runs along the old railway line from Abbeyfeale to Listowel and can be enjoyed by cyclists, walkers, runners, families and wheelchair users alike.

Follow The Greenway

Joining the 40km long Limerick Greenway at Abbeyfeale, you will traverse woodlands, farmland and riverside terrain on route to the beautiful heritage town of Listowel. There, the Greenway links with stunning local trails including the green flag accredited Childers Park and Woodlands.

Safe and traffic-free, the greenway affords you the opportunity to increase your levels of physical activity and enhance your overall health and wellbeing, in a fun and enjoyable manner.

Waymark signs are provided along the route as is trailhead signage, detailing your current location, distance to facilities and places of interest. Seating and bike parking facilities are also available.

HISTORIC LISTOWEL

The market town of Listowel is a popular tourist destination which boasts a plethora of attractions.

The 15th-century Fitzmaurice castle, operated by the Office of Public Works, is open for tours between April and October, while the Lartigue Monorail Museum is another must-see for history lovers. Visit the Kerry Writers’ Museum to view interesting exhibitions on North Kerry Writers and learn about our literary heritage. Explore their shop stocked with local crafts and a wide selection of books or enjoy a well deserved treat at the café.

The town park, complete with tennis courts, a pitch and putt course and a children’s playground can provide fun for all the family in the heart of Listowel. Therein you will find the Garden of Europe, a wonderful place to sit, meditate or engage in creative thinking, in a town “where it is easier to write than not to write”.

Discover North Kerry

A number of breathtaking beaches can be located just a short drive from Listowel. Enjoy a swim along the Wild Atlantic Way at Beale and Littor strands or explore the glorious blue flag beaches in the seaside town of Ballybunion, the choice is yours. The world-renowned Ballybunion Golf course is a must-play for links golf enthusiasts.

Upon completion of your daily activities, there are many bars, restaurants and live entertainment venues to be enjoyed in Listowel and the wider North Kerry area.
