As Ireland continues to progress as an international Cricketing nation, it is worth noting that: a primitive form of cricket, Cuchlainn, is recorded in 11th Century Irish Annals; that cricket narrowly missed becoming a GAA sport (on the votes of two Kerry representatives); and that Irish commentators have stated “that the game best suited to the Irish character is cricket”.
North Kerry Cricket Club, established 2010, is a young cricket club which welcomes players of all abilities, experienced or not, from the age of 16 years upwards.
Based around the towns of Listowel and Ballybunion, club members originate from the UK, Asia and Australasia as well as from Ireland.
NKCC currently field one senior side which enters the Kerry Twenty20 League. Matches are played on weekday evenings against sides from Tralee, Killarney, Killorglin, Dingle and Valentia Island.
Games of 40 overs per side are played at weekends against sides from as far afield as Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Kilkenny and Limerick.
NKCC also host a fast and furious Indoor version of cricket at the local community centre – all players get an equal opportunity to bat and bowl.
We welcome new players of all abilities and experience. Whether you are new to the sport, whether you are a father and son looking for a game to play together, whether you have not played for twenty years or whether you are a seasoned pro – we will welcome your interest.
NKCC are currently working towards:
- Securing our own cricket ground
- Raising funds for an artificial wicket
- Gaining entry into Division 3 Munster Cricket Union League
